Summer 2011 Teacher Program
Workshop in Biotechnology

Monday - Thursday, July 25-28, 2011

Program Format:

This program will provide high school biology teachers with a hands-on opportunity to perform biotechnology techniques currently used in research and industry. The program's first three days will focus on gaining familiarity with skills and procedures in the laboratory during the early mornings and afternoons. Late mornings will consist of presentations by Harvard faculty members who conduct research in a variety of scientific areas that will provide a content framework for the laboratory sessions.

During the fourth day, teachers will explore how to work collaboratively to develop meaningful classroom lessons based upon the lecture and laboratory content.  Special attention will be be paid to integration of these laboratories into your curriculum and schedule.  Sessions will include alignment with the MCAS frameworks, AP Biology curriculum and helpful hints for laboratory planning.

Program Goals:

Prepare teachers to use the Amgen-Bruce Wallace Biotechnology Laboratory Program in their own classrooms.
